We are delighted to present a new digital hub for research and study.
Interdisciplinary down to an art, the new hub brings Bloomsbury’s leading visual arts digital resources together into one rich, cross-searchable platform.
On launch, the Bloomsbury Visual Arts hub comprises Bloomsbury Design Library, Bloomsbury Applied Visual Arts, and Bloomsbury International Encyclopedia of Surrealism. It is also home to a new, ground-breaking digital resource, Bloomsbury Art Markets, and now our Bloomsbury Architecture Library and Architecture Design and Practice Online collections.
Existing users and administrators of these visual arts digital resources will be able to access all of the same high-quality content as before but will benefit from an enhanced experience.
For users, this includes a new, bespoke taxonomy designed to support ease of navigation and discovery across collections or closely related subject areas. Administrators can purchase any combination of collections to tailor their version of the hub to suit their institution’s needs. Subscription-sensitivity is also now available, ensuring that users only see the collections to which they have access.

How has our access to BDL/ BAVA/ BIES/ BAL changed? Have redirects been set up?
If your institution has purchased or subscribed to BDL/ BAVA/ BIES/ BAL, you still have access to that content – the new home for these collections is now bloomsburyvisualarts.com.
In order to support customers who have bookmarked the current URLs, for example in library catalogue systems or in reading lists, as well as search engines and discovery and indexing databases, we have set up URL redirects for all pages.

This will mean that links to content pages (e.g. to articles, books, cases, museums and exhibitions) and also links to Research and Learning resources redirect to the corresponding page on the new Bloomsbury Visual Arts site.
Please note the redirects will live in our platforms indefinitely. DOIs will continue to point to the new platform too. This means that if you are using our MARC records (which include DOI URLs), you need not be concerned about the URLs. If you are using your own MARC records or are bookmarking pages using the OLD platform URLs, you are covered by the redirects.
However customers who have purchased Architecture Design & Practice Online will need to download the new set of MARC and KBART records for this collection from the MARC records page as the DOIs have been updated now that the content has moved over to the hub. The new records for Architecture Design & Practice Online have been shared with discovery partners but the timing of availability of the updated records following the migration may vary due to third party processes.
How have our personal accounts been affected?
Users will still be able to log in to their personal accounts on Bloomsbury Visual Arts.
Saved content items in personal accounts have not been retained when BDL/ BAVA/ BIES/ BAL moved over to Bloomsbury Visual Arts – other than if those links were previously saved as bookmarks in their browser.
Saved search items have not been retained when BDL/ BAVA/ BIES/ BAL moved over to Bloomsbury Visual Arts. Search results are different on the new platform, as users are able to see search results from multiple products if they would like.
Are there any changes to usage statistics (COUNTER reports)?
Now that BDL/ BAVA/ BIES/ BAL are part of the main Bloomsbury Visual Arts (BVA) site, they no longer have their own URL/domain for COUNTER purposes. They are databases within Bloomsbury Visual Arts on the COUNTER 5 Database reports instead.
All BDL/ BAVA/ BIES/ BAL COUNTER usage will come via the BVA COUNTER API key and any COUNTER 5 usage prior to the migration will be available under a separate BDL/ BAVA/ BIES/ BAL site entry.
Are there any changes to EZProxy?
Any Bloomsbury Visual Arts customers using EZProxy need to ensure that they have the Geoplugin stanza in their EZProxy config.txt. Existing customers of Bloomsbury Design Library, Bloomsbury Applied Visual Arts, Bloomsbury International Encyclopedia of Surrealism, and Bloomsbury Architecture Library should update their config.txt file with this information also.

Are institutions able to renew their subscription to BDL, BAL, and BAVA?
Yes, BDL, BAL, and BAVA are still available to purchase via subscription or perpetual access basis now that each collection has migrated to the main Bloomsbury Visual Arts hub.

Bloomsbury Fashion Central is an established hub comprised of 5 collections which address global fashion and dress in the contexts of history, research, practice, industry, designers, and museum collections, as well as their intersection with culture and anthropology.
Screen Studies is an expanding hub for moving-image studies. It offers books, screenplays, overview articles and learning resources from Bloomsbury, Faber & Faber, the British Film Institute, Focal Press and Auteur (LUP). It supports research and learning in film history, theory, and practice.
